Founder's Message
WaterStarr’s founder and Chairman is Robert J. Watters, Ph.D., an environmental scientist working in Canada as an environmental consultant for the past 37 years, with the last 21 years as President and Chief Executive Officer at the company he founded, Watters Environmental Group.
His passion for helping the environment started early in life. It really affected him to see animals get hurt, trees get cut, or waters get polluted. This sparked a lifelong goal to learn everything he could about how to protect our planet.
He earned advanced degrees from the University of Toronto, studying biology, geology, chemistry, physics, climatology, ecosystem management, and aquatic sciences.
His doctoral research examined how pollution, like acid rain, damages our forests and alters the natural cycles of nutrients. These findings were published in several respected environmental journals. This research also highlighted the importance of humans not interfering with natural systems by demonstrating that nature has a specific purpose for dead trees and understory, which humans are quick to remove from forests.
His passion for helping the planet expanded when he started to see the extensive damage from human activity, especially during his many years working as an environmental consultant.
Being an environmental consultant gave Dr. Watters the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of industries, including nuclear power, uranium and metal mining, pulp and paper, oil and gas, forestry, agriculture and food production, and consumer goods. Most recently, he is the lead consultant on Canada’s largest resource recovery project, involving the extraction and reuse of graphite and metals from a landfill that was established many years ago.
He has worked on thousands of assets, completing reviews, assessments, and compliance audits for private corporations, governments, insurance companies, and banks.
What he has witnessed over time was clear … the way we live is out of balance with the Earth, and our human family is suffering the consequences of this.
Today, his passion and his mission are to help individuals, communities, companies, and governments realign how we live and do business. Our future depends on our willingness and ability to better align with our planet.
Dr. Watters founded WaterStarr to offer hope, a practical solution, and a path to a healthy future for all life on the earth.
